I have always admired Helmut Newton's work. He is an icon within the fashion photography world and his work is universally recognized. It seems as if the images have transcended time itself, influencing generations of photographers that have come and gone. I believe it's important to respect each artist's own vision, meaning that you must look outward to feed yourself creatively but simultaneously it's important to cultivate and nurture your own unique vision. I decided to tip my hat off to the infamous Helmut in the past shoot here at Creative Shin Studio. I collaborated in creative direction with the talented stylist, Rod Novoa. We agreed that the shoot would be a modern approach towards Helmut's work, relying on classic styling and high contrast lighting to produce a graphic sensibility highlighting shape and form.
On the day of the shoot, both Brianna and Michaela arrived from Red Models NYC enthusiastic and inspired by our concept. We wanted the models to embody a feeling of empowerment, of strength, and yet still maintain a sense of femininity and playfulness. The beautiful waves and voluminous hair by Monet Moon paired with the flawless makeup by Aeriel Payne transformed the models, completing the vision we were so eager to achieve! Many thanks to co-creative director & stylist Rod Nova, Jason Sobe at Red Models Management, Brianna Mellon and Michaela Vybohoba for being such wonderful models! What a great team!
